Ultimaker, a 3D printer manufacturer, announced that PET Carbon Fiber (CF), a lightweight and versatile composite material for S-series 3D printers, will be added to the company’s portfolio of high performance materials. PET CF is a high-performance thermoplastic material that offers superior strength and chemical resistance.
Ultimaker PET CF is a new addition to Ultimaker that allows engineers the ability to produce more precise and stronger parts. This includes manufacturing tools, jigs & fixtures, and parts intended for end use. PET CF is also a great material for engineers to use in their prototypes. This allows them to test out technical concepts and functions. PET CF is also a great solution to replace production parts that are broken or difficult to source. According to the company, by using its strong mechanical properties and thermal properties, manufacturers are able to quickly print replacement components. This eliminates the need for costly shutdowns of production lines. Its stiffness and strength make it perfect for high-performance applications. This material delivers enhanced performance under even the most demanding conditions.
PET CF’s ability to achieve higher stiffness, strength and temperature resistance by annealing is one of its features. By annealing printed parts, engineers can achieve a temperature resistance of up to 181°C and increase strength by up to 30 percent and stiffness by up to ten percent, resulting in parts that excel in challenging environments.
PET CF is less sensitive to moisture than other carbon fibers, and therefore requires only a limited amount of drying. It remains well-conditioned when stored in the Ultimaker Material Station. This allows for a reliable print experience with consistently high quality prints. PET CF can be used with support materials such as Ultimaker PVA or Breakaway. This allows users to design their parts freely and create complex composites without limits.
PET CF comes in a variety of colours including gray, black and blue. The feature allows users the ability to color code their carbon fibre prints to cater to specific uses or aesthetic requirements. The material is integrated into Ultimaker through NFC equipped spools. It offers a seamless experience using NFC material recognition and a dedicated Print core CC.
PET CF is also available in the PET CF Expansion Kit for users who are looking for a complete composite print solution. The Expansion Kit contains two spools each of PET CF black, blue and gray. The Expansion Kit also contains one 0.4mm Print Core and one 0.6mm Print Core.
